Marijuana news from contributing authors and staff writers on the latest in marijuana and medical marijuana
MADISON, MN (WFSB) -
A Minnesota mother is facing charges after giving her son medical marijuana following a traumatic brain injury.
Angela Brown calls the cannabis oil a lifesaver for her son, Trey, after he was injured at a baseball game several years ago.
""It just hurts in my brain everywhere. I really can't explain the pain," said Trey Brown, who said he suffers from headaches, muscle spasms and seizures.
Brown says the pain became so bad at one point that he began punching and cutting himself.
"I was afraid to go to the bathroom, he'd be harming himself," his mother said, who then began giving him medical marijuana to help with the pain.
"I felt better. The pain went away," said Brown.
But, when Trey told his teachers what his mother came up with for a solution, police were called.
Investigators seized the oil and charged Angela Brown with child endangerment and causing a child to need protection.
"The prosecutor's version of this is that a good mom allows her child to be in pain, to self-harm and attempt to take his life," said Brown. "I guess that's a good mom in his eyes."
Brown could face two years in prison and a $6,000 fine if convicted.
They're now considering moving to a state that has already legalized medical marijuana.
