Album Notes - Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young - Déjà Vu

I had to triple check. I was sure that one of the previous editions of Album Notes featured this here record. Alas, my initial instinct was wrong. We have never been here before.

In honor of Groundhog Day and in light of the recent passing of legend David "every former band member of mine minus my son, although he probably does too, calls me 'frenemy'" Crosby, it's fitting to feature the 1970 classic from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Déjà Vu

I've long been fascinated by the group's place in rock history. They're held in such high (and for Crosby, emphasis on high) esteem. In many ways, rightfully so, for the sum of their parts and those glorious, glorious harmonies. And yet, what a weird career, for all their permutations, with and without Neil Young. The Canadian-less trio released their excellent debut in 1969, and were back ten months later with Déjà Vu, adding Mr. Young to the fold. And then? A '71 live album recorded the previous year; a hits compilation in '74; a solid sans-Young '77 LP. A similar formula of sporadic releases over the ensuing 20 some odd years followed. In the end, there are just three studio albums credited to the group called Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young and another five to the triad. Separately, they had various levels of solo success. Together, they were never better than on Déjà Vu
