Album Notes - illuminati hotties - Free I.H: This is Not the One You've Been Waiting For
In 1965, The Temptations sang, "Everyday it grows a little more than it was the day before." That has absolutely nothing to do with this week's featured album other than the lyric matches my opinion of this record, one that quickly went from "WTF?" to "what is this?" I stumbled upon it for reasons entirely non-musical: Illuminati Hotties is a great band name. It's also made even better by the realization it's a solo act. Free I.H: This is Not the One You've Been Waiting For is a great album name made even better by the revelation that it's Sarah Tudzan buying her way out of a record contract from a label accused of shady accounting. From start to finish this is a 24-minute curiosity with DIY allure as a tunesmith indulges her punk sensibilities in ways both catchy and abrasive, sometimes magnificently simultaneously, all while keeping both artist and listener on their toes. Now one of my favorites of the year, it's a brilliant album whose title begs the question: Well then, what is?
