Album Notes - James Holden - Imagine This Is a High Dimensional Space of All Possibilities
April Fool's Day weekend was no joke when it came to new music. There were a handful of releases I've already listened to multiple times, at least a few of which will likely be featured in the coming weeks, beginning today. I'm going to start with the one that is least typical of what I would normally share.
Electronic music is not often a major part of my aural repertoire, but James Holden continues to fascinate. Imagine This Is a High Dimensional Space of All Possibilities is his fourth full length, and as with his previous work it runs the gamut of tones and indulgences. While less thematic and more chaotic than the previous The Animal Spirits, his latest cuts deeper even as Holden continues to paint with a broad brush, melding eras as much as genres.
I'm not sure how else to describe this other than to admit I'm ill equipped to articulate in depth on music of this nature. But sometimes something hits you just right and you want others to give it a chance. After all, this here is a space of all possibilities.
