A non-exhaustive list of favorites from which elements are on display throughout: Cake, Soul Coughing, Beck, along with, from their side of the pond, Gorillaz, Squid, Sleaford Mods. Toss all that plus whatever track 10 is into an 11-song set and you've got quite possibly the most enjoyable album I've heard from 2024 thus far. Where's My Utopia? is Yard Act's sophomore effort, and while the debut was quality, their latest crackles with a sprawling yet cohesive set of ideas that largely seemed unimaginable stemming from 2022's The Overload, significantly upping the ante and putting this Leeds outfit on an entirely different trajectory. Where's My Utopia?: one small step for music, one giant step for Yard Act.
