Walking into a Chinese herbal medicine shop is like going into a drugstore. You don't know what everything is, but you know you need something there. On a Saturday, I visited R & S Herbs for the first time looking for "Kam Wo Cha." Kam Wo Cha is a ''cure all" tea. But specifically this tea has been known for centuries to help with a cold, fever and digestive problems. As soon as I walked in, the woman at the counter asked me (in English) how she could help me. I asked her if she had Kam Wo Cha. She said yes, and pointed to stacks of boxes of tea. She also showed me a Vietnamese brand. We had a discussion about the different brands, and I picked up 3 boxes of the Kamwo Tea. Very nice buying experience. R & S carries a variety of dry herbs, packaged goods, tea, tinctures, ointments and ginseng. It's located on Webster St between 8th and 9th St in Oakland Chinatown. Street parking. 4-5 blocks from 12th St BART Station.
