Album Notes - LCD Soundsystem - Electric Lady Sessions
LCD Soundsystem broke up with a grand farewell party at Madison Square Garden in April, 2011. They announced their reunion in grand fashion with a Coachella headlining slot in April, 2016. 17 months after that came American Baby, their first studio album in seven years. And I loved it. 17 months after American Baby they put out Electric Lady Sessions, a live set culled from three days spent in the aforementioned studio. And I loved it. Even more.
So why am I now writing about an album that came out almost five months ago? I can't stop listening to it. It just might be my favorite thing I've heard in 2019. Consisting of six tracks from their 2017 return, three from earlier in their career, and three covers, there's a crackling energy present, owing to the live nature of the recording. The highlight is undoubtedly the seamless three-song suite of "Tonite," "Home," and "I Want Your Love," particularly the flawless transition from "Tonite" into "Home," a segue that would make Aron Magner smile. That is my kind of dance party. The one that makes me wish Daft Punk was playing at my house.
