City Council Heralds New Brick Wall
Dismissing criticism that they should've built a public lavatory or even permanent concession stand, City Council members proudly cut the the ribbon and showed off the new large, cubic wall built in the middle of Howard St., at a Wednesday event. "They said we couldn't do it, and some said we shouldn't do it," said councilperson Sandra Purdy. "But we did it anyway. And it's glorious."
For the last four months, construction crews have been seen carting each brick the long two miles from supply yard to the site between cheefing huge rips off the local public bongs. Community members "got in on the project" and even helped the crew figure out how to make DIY mortar.
"The neighborhood really came together, which makes it all the more special." The wall, which measures seven feet in height, roughly 8 inches thick, is made from top-quality cinder blocks out of Gary, Indiana. It covers a full 10x10 cement plot large enough to be an open-air shed or to house a dumpster, if one could be somehow lifted in and out. "I really like how it curves around, like a conch shell," said nearby resident Betty Micker. "I just sort of wish it wasn't right in the middle of the street so we can't drive through."
